Ceremonies & Celebrations

IMG_4011.jpeg
"Joy is such a wonderful celebrant - many of our guests commented on how beautiful the ceremony was, and wasn’t a dry eye in the place! Joy is made to do this job and she does it so beautifully with grace, humour and heartfelt emotion"

Liz & Jamie, 20th Anniversary Vow Renewal

What I offer

There are moments in all of our lives that need to be acknowledged.

Some, like weddings or funerals, are rich with cultural traditions and social expectations.

But for other significant life events – like diagnosis, divorce, retirement or menopause for example – it can be less clear how to honour or acknowledge them.

That is where a bespoke, celebrant-led ceremony can be a great option.

When you feel that you would like to gather your closest people to mark an important moment in your life in a way that reflects you and your values, but you’re not sure where to start……I can help!

Ceremonies can be very small - I can hold space just for you, or with a chosen few, to acknowledge a significant event in a way that feels safe, nourishing and meaningful. Or your ceremony can include a big crowd of the people you love to witness, celebrate and stand beside you.

Every ceremony I write and deliver is completely different - because creating ceremonies which honour, celebrate and witness each unique and individual experience is one of my greatest joys.

I love ceremony and ritual, and have a deep appreciation for the role these can play in helping to navigate life’s most important and challenging transitions.

I feel very privileged to be invited to walk alongside families and individuals at some of the most tender and significant moments of their lives.

Rites of Passage Ceremonies
Rites of Passage Ceremonies

Rites of Passage Ceremonies are for those special times of transition in our lives. The brilliant poet John O'Donohugh wrote "We have fallen out of belonging. Consequently when we stand before crucial thresholds in our lives, we have no rituals to protect, encourage and guide us as we cross over into the unknown".

It is my absolute delight to craft ceremonies and rituals to support this 'crossing into the unknown' - to help create a structure and a focus for the gathering of friends and loved ones around you at these tender times.

  • New Mama Circles (alternative or addition to a baby shower. Support and love on the threshold of parenthood)

  • Bridal Circles (alternative or addition to a hen party – to honour the transition into a new season of life)

  • Significant Life Events – eg Divorce, retirement, Diagnosis, End of medical treatment (Support, love and ritual for tender times)

  • Milestone Birthday Circles (alternative or addition to a traditional birthday party)

  • New home blessings (honouring your new home with ritual and ceremony)

  • Transition or Renaming Ceremonies (an opportunity to celebrate the wholeness of who you are)

  • Coming of Age Ceremonies (for young people to acknowledge transition out of childhood and welcome them into the next season of life)

  • Menopause Ceremonies (for individuals or groups, to honour and celebrate your transition into the 'wise woman' years)
